LATIN has had a recent revival of interest as a school subject...

The current Mayor of London is an enthusiastic advocate of introducing Latin in the school curriculum. At present, in the secondary phase there are government maintained Local Authority(LA) schools who offer Latin although the independent sector are still the predominant providers. Some LA (local authority) primary schools also offer Latin together with French or Spanish.

The following statistics are from the secondary GCSE and A levels examinations for 2010. The Oxford,Cambridge and Royal Society of Arts examination(OCR) board is the only one offering Latin examinations.

What are your views on introducing Latin in the school curriculum? Does it enhance literacy in English? Is Latin a pan European cultural MUST?
